Bulking is not necessary to build muscle as a natural lifter

Bulking or eating in a caloric surplus does not equate to more muscles, more bricks to a build a bigger house does not apply to this if the designer never designed it to happen in the first place, of course as a enhanced lifter bulking is worth it because now your anabolic which causes the body to grow rapidly. However if you are a natural lifter bulking is just eating in excess calories gaining body fat, with the same amount of muscle you would have gained on a caloric deficit or maintaience because as a natural lifter your primary drivers of building muscle is Testosterone and Strength adaptations. This is why i preach strength training over hypertrophy for a natural lifter but the most ideal is one mixed with strength training and hypertrophy ( fluff-work). Bulking helps you gain strength quicker yes no doubt, but you could make the same gains without bulking just slower but without gaining fat.

When is bulking good for a natural lifter ?

If you’re in your first year of lifting, or seriously underweight this is when bulking works and is a solution because you need to actually eat more to gain more weight vis fat or muscle it does not matter because your either severely underweight, or in the first year of lifting. Besides that other purposes of bulking as a natural is completely a waste of time. I hope many of you understand that when you go on a bulk, you gain 10-15lbs of weight thinking half of it is muscle, but what you get is 1-3lbs of lean tissue, fat, water retention and then you go on a cut losing half of the muscular gains you make because thats how a natural lifter’s physiology work.

Is their specific excerise which a natural lifter must do ?

Not necessarily, any excerise variation can build muscle just as long as you’re progressively overloading on them with better form. However i would say that bench press, deadlifts, squats, barbell rows, overhead press, and Pullups which are all compound movements should be in your workout split as they give you the most bang for your back in hitting multiple muscles in one single excerise.

250lb of a caloric surplus for 7 days, means you gain half a lb of fat a week, multiply by 52 weeks (a year), you now gained 26 lbs of body fat. Thats a lot considering body fat is 2x the volume of muscle at the same weight.

Do stronglifts 5x5 for 4 months. It will not build much muscle but gives insane strength gains.
After that cycle, go for a hypertrophy based program like ppl or even brosplit.

Imagine bench pressing 135lbs for 8 reps and compare it with repping 225 lbs for 8 reps, which one will build more muscle?
Strength is needed to build muscle. Hence get stronger first and go for hypertrophy training.
